This small but complex polyhedra is a miracle by itself. It's made out of 30 pieces of paper folded and attached to each other without any glue. Making all those folds is really precise and time consuming process in which my patience was tested throughout a several days.
The final result is intriguing and will catch the eye of everyone having them wonder how it stands in that position. But making it spin was the cherry on top!
I really enjoyed mixing origami with wood. The solid cherry wood base was a great addition because of it's smooth service finished with natural oils.
The object looks quite amazing because of it's unique design – an origami piece merely touching a wooden base. The bright colors of the paper will attract everyone, and the structure will then add more of a wondering. The ball can be softly pushed with a finger which causes a nice spinning, making the colors pop out even more.
A solid cherry wooden base balances the fancy eye-catching top, providing an elegant touch. The whole piece looks stylish, colorful yet minimal.
The top is an origami piece made out of specially colored origami paper. It's a modular polyhedra shape consisting of 30 units (total of 390 folds) which are connected together without any glue.
The base is made from a solid cherry wood, finished with all natural oils including carnauba wax, bees wax, seed oil and coconut oil.
The ball is a round sphere with around 15cm diameter. The base is a 2cm thick solid 14x14cm square.
The total dimensions of everything all together are:
Width: ~15 cm (6 inch)
Height: ~17 cm (7 inch)
Total weight: about 100 grams
The ball is made of special FSC certified paper which can last many years. It can be easily cleaned using a feather duster, blow the dust away using low-powered vacuum cleaner, or simply swipe it off with a dry cloth.
The base is finished with all natural oils, which include carnauba wax. What that means is that the wood is sealed and won't soak any dirt. You can simply wipe it out with a soft and dry cloth or a feather duster. Vacuuming is not recommended.
A very gentle touch is needed in order to make the ball spin. Therefore you should be careful when spinning it and not to apply too much force.
